Does a QuickBooks Online data export include attachments?

If you are backing up a company or leaving QuickBooks Online, you find two separate exports. The Export data tool covers reports and lists. Intuit's help page lists attachments among the items you export from their own area. So a complete archive needs the attachments exported on their own, as below (Intuit: export your QuickBooks Online data).

Export QuickBooks Online attachments separately from the data export

In QuickBooks Online, click the gear icon (Settings) and choose Attachments under Lists.
Tick the boxes of the files you want.
Open the Batch actions dropdown and choose Export.
QuickBooks downloads a ZIP file with the selected files.

What each export covers

Export data (Settings → Export data): per Intuit, reports and lists as Excel files in one ZIP.
Attachments: per Intuit, exported from Settings → Attachments with Batch actions → Export, as a ZIP file.

Intuit's article also recommends third-party apps for backing up data.

Where that falls short for an archive

The two exports arrive as separate downloads, and Intuit's article does not describe a link between a file and the row it belongs to. If an accountant or a successor will need the receipt for a given bill, you want the files named by transaction and an index you can sort.

Is the QuickBooks Online Export data tool enough to keep my receipts?

Per Intuit's help page it covers reports and lists, and lists attachments among the items exported from their own area, so attachments need their own export.

Is Attachment Bundler a backup of my whole company?

No. It exports attachments and an index. It does not export reports, lists, estimates, credit memos, vendor credits or files on customer and vendor records.

Does Attachment Bundler change anything in QuickBooks?

No. The app only reads transactions and attachments. Intuit offers a single accounting permission, so the consent screen asks for it, but the app sends read requests only.

Does Attachment Bundler keep my files?

No. Attachments stream from QuickBooks through our server into your ZIP download and are never written to disk or a database. Export metadata is deleted after 72 hours.
